Hello, and welcome to Algebra+. My name is Randy Anderson.
To succeed in an online course you must read all directions very carefully. This exercise will walk you through a few tasks as an introduction to various parts of the course.
Explore Canvas. I highly encourage you to watch the short videos provided at the bottom of that page. They will help you learn how to navigate Canvas.
Read about MyOpenMath.
Do the MyOpenMath Orientation. (Note: you may be prompted to login to MyOpenMath. Click the Login button and you will be taken to the Orientation.) This is to familiarize yourself with MyOpenMath and how answers are to be entered into the program.
Class participation, interaction with your classmates, group work, and learning to communicate about and with mathematics are important aspects of any math class. For this class, Forums will be used to address all questions, while our Google+ Community will be used for additional class interaction. See Communication and Participation for more information.
If you are unsure of how to proceed, or if you have questions about the course material, post your question(s) to the Forums. As an active participant in this course, I expect you to assist your classmates by also responding to their questions in the Forums. I will monitor the Forums and will post clarifications when I deem it necessary. You are to post all inquiries related to the course in the Forums because your question/answer is probably of interest to several of your classmates, and because you may get a reply from a classmate shortly after posting it.
If you have a personal issue or a question regarding your grade, you should contact me privately using the “Post to the Instructor(s)” option in the Forums.
Your first tasks are to:
1. Read the Syllabus.
2. Read the page Communication and Participation.
3. Read the page So, How Does This Course Work?
4. Read about MyOpenMath.
5. On the navigation bar on the left, click Assignments. This is where links to the assignments will be listed.
- Note: The next MyOpenMath set becomes available at midnight following the 11:59 pm PST deadline date of the previous MyOpenMath set.
- In general, for each exam/quiz there will be a 2-3 day window during which you can take it.
6. You can also see the calendar (located at the top of the Canvas page) for deadline dates.
7. All the lessons are located in the Modules section. This can be found on the navigation bar located on the left of a Canvas page.
8. Introduce yourself to me and your classmates by posting an introduction on the Forums. Make sure to Post to the Entire Class, Select the Folder “introductions”, then post. Forums can be found on the navigation bar located on the left of a Canvas page.
Study well and please let me know if you have any questions.
