So, How Does This Course Work?

This course consists of a series of lessons organized in modules. To access the lessons, go to Modules located on the navigation bar at the left side of the page.

Each Module has an Introduction page that contains the learning outcomes for that particular module.

The lessons in each Module are arranged very similar to a textbook. They are grouped together in individual “sections”. For the most part, the lessons are sequential, so I highly recommend you view them in the order presented.

Most video lessons contain problems for you to try, and then get instant feedback. You also have the ability to try the problem again or even get a new problem that is similar. You can navigate the video and “Questions” by using the links to the left of the video. You’ll understand as soon as you click the first video “Linear Equations: The Addition and Multiplication Properties of Equality”. (Note: after you click the link to the video lesson you may be prompted to login to MyOpenMath. Just click the “Log in” button and you’ll be taken to the video.)

After completing the lessons in a particular “section”, click the link titled “Practice - …” These contain practice problems for only that particular section. You also have the ability to reattempt each problem and even try another similar problem. These problems do not count toward the overall grade in the course, they are here for your benefit to get some practice before working on the MyOpenMath sets.

Most modules also contain a section titled “Additional Resources and Practice Problems”. The page for More Practice Problems contains pdf files of more practice problems. The page for Additional Resources contains links to other sites that have text or videos for the concepts discussed in the module. You may find some of these resources helpful.

The MyOpenMath sets contain problems from all the sections in the particular module, as well as some problems from previous MyOpenMath sets. The problems in the MyOpenMath sets are part of the Possible Points category and are available for an extended period of time. I encourage you to work on MyOpenMath problems every day.

The Midterm is over the material in modules “Part 1” through "Part 4" .

The Final Exam is over the material in modules “Part 5” through "Part 8".

In addition to the two exams there is a category called “Possible Points”. These “Possible Points” will mainly consist of online homework through MyOpenMath, but may also include online quizzes. Over 500 total points will be offered in the “Possible Points” category, of which the maximum you can earn is 400 points. See Assignments for deadline dates.

All questions will be addressed in the Forums. This means that as you work through the material, post any questions you may have to the Forums as opposed to sending me a message or posting them to our Google+ Community. You are also encouraged to answer other student questions on the Forums.

Study well and please let me know if you have any questions.
