To earn the Intellectual Property achievement please complete the following assignment (click the Submit button on the right). After the assignment deadline you will receive notifications asking you to complete two peer reviews.
For this challenge you will use the knowledge you have gained thus far to decide whether or not to assign a Creative Commons license to an original work. You do not have to create something - either think about something you have already created, or something you might wish to create in the future. This original or imagined work can be in any format (written, image, video), and should be fairly simple. For example, you could take a photograph, write a brief paragraph or lyric, draw a simple picture, or come up with a hypothetical work. The emphasis here is not on the actual creation.
First, decide whether or not you wish to apply a Creative Commons license to your original work. Compose a reflective essay (maximum of 500 words), and discuss the following points: Did you choose to apply a CC license? Why or why not? If you did, what license did you choose, and why? What are the implications of choosing to license in Creative Commons? If you did not, what are the implications of choosing not to? Please be sure to address the level of openness of the license you chose.
Optional Activity: If you decide to apply a CC license to an original work, and you would like to put what you learned into practice, feel free to share it, in your submission or in the Discussion Forums, by providing a hyperlink to your creation, along with the CC license you applied.
