Course Description

Welcome to Introduction to Learning Technologies. This course will provide an introduction to how learning technologies may support student collaboration, reflection, creation, sharing and other key elements of learning and provide opportunity for you to consider how they may do so in course that you teach, and how you will for your own professional development.

Throughout this course there will be videos to watch, mostly short readings to complete, discussion posts for you to create and others for you to read and respond to. There will also be two major projects for you to complete and some smaller activities along the way. You should expect to spend 2-5 hours each week in the course, depending on how active you are on the discussion board.

The instructors, Heather M. Ross and Ryan Banow, will be very active in this course through posts on the discussion board and on Twitter. You can also expect a weekly communication from the instructors with a bit about what happened the week before in class, and what will be coming up in the next week.

Guest speakers will be brought in to provide their thoughts on specific topics. You will have opportunities to ask them and the instructors questions throughout the course through the discussions, Twitter and, in the case of the instructors, through private messages Links to an external site.. Don't hesitate to contact us!

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Utilize learning technologies in your teaching and for your professional development
  • Evaluate various learning technologies in relation to their potential contribution to student learning
  • Create and publish digital learning resources for use in teaching
  • Discuss issues around the use of learning technologies including digital citizenship, digital literacy and access
