8.1 ePortfolios

ePortfolios are digital versions of collections of and reflections on an individuals learning. The learner may be in elementary school, university or even already working as a professional. The ePortfolio allows for a place for the learner to store artifacts of their learning, reflect on the role the artifact plays in their learning and share this evidence of their learning with other students, teachers or potential or current employers.

There are a number of tools that can be used for creating and maintaining ePortfolios including blogging platforms such as Wordpress Links to an external site., note-taking tools such as Evernote, Links to an external site.or applications designed specifically for use with ePortfolios, such as Mahara Links to an external site..

In the videos below, you'll hear about an overview of using ePortfolios to document and reflect on your own professional development, as well as the views of some post-secondary students on the use of ePortfolios, and get a look at how grade one teacher Kathy Cassidy is using ePortfolios with her students.

The readings at the end of this page will give you additional information on ePortfolios including how to use them in K-12 and post-secondary education.

The Google Hangout this week will be a conversation with Tim Molnar from the College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan about ePortfolios.
