5.3 YouTube
In this course you have already watched several videos from YouTube include screencasts that we made for this course, screencasts made by others and also the TEDTalk by Eli Pariser in Module 2, so you have already seen some of the many educational resources that can be found on YouTube. There are educational videos to assist teachers and students for every subject at all levels of education. You may find them by doing a general search, browsing through the videos of a particular user, such as the channel for our teaching and learning centre, the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching Effectiveness Links to an external site. (GMCTE) or TEDTalks Links to an external site., or by looking at YouTube Edu. Links to an external site.
In the previous section you learned about creating screencast videos. One way of sharing the videos that you create is through YouTube.
Posting your screencasts to YouTube allows you to easily share them with your learners by either sending them directly to the video on YouTube or by linking to or embedding the video on a Webpage or in a learning management system. Most videos created at our teaching and learning centre are on our YouTube page and also appear on our center's Website and are included in our courses that we teach, such as this one. Publishing these videos to YouTube make it easy for us to use and reuse, share with other individuals and organizations and promote the work that we do at our center.
John Boyer, who is our guest this week for the Google Hangout, regularly posts videos of explanations and mini-lectures for his students to YouTube for his World Regions course at Virginia Tech. A discussion forum has been set up where you can post your questions for John. You can also tweet questions using the course hasthtag #ilt_usask. We will make sure that John sees your questions so that he can respond during the live Google Hangout.
The video below will provide you with a brief tutorial on how to upload a video to YouTube. This is a skill you may find useful for completing your media project assignment.
