Discussion Instructions
Note: Course facilitation by our volunteer subject matter experts has ended. This discussion is now "read only".
As we conclude Module 1, let's take a moment to share and compare our conceptions of our learners, and our initial ideas about how to help them accomplish their goals. Think back to the persona you explored in this module. Consider the learning and performance context, the list you compiled of possible skills and knowledge gaps faced by this learner, and how you can help this learner be successful in an adult basic education program. Within a brief reply to this post, share your reflections on the following:
How can you provide opportunities for this learner to engage in
learning experiences that will help him/ her prepare for his/her goals?
As you reflect, consider:
- your learner's goals, skills and knowledge gaps, and other needs (feel free to attach* your Empathy Map),
- where your learner will be physically located when learning and how that affects your options as the designer,
- the likelihood your learner will have access to (and know how to use) the Internet, computers, mobile technology, headphones, webcams, or software, and
- possible learning activities you can design focused on real-life problems or tasks given these needs, opportunities, and constraints.
After you post your reflection, please skim through the other posted reflections. Share your comments or any questions as replies to the posts of one or two others.
* The easiest way to attach your handwritten Empathy Map is to take a picture with your camera phone and attach the image to your discussion post using the paperclip attachment icon on the bottom left of the reply window Links to an external site.. Alternatively, La Dawna Minnis, one of our prior class participants offered the following video that she created to show her students how to embed a photo to a Canvas Discussion post Links to an external site..
