Guided Example #1 - Transformational Geometry

Let T be a transformation function, T(x,y) = (3.5x, 6.3y). Suppose the vertices of a rectangle of area 5 undergo the transformation T(x,y). What is the area of the transformed rectangle?

Step 1

T(x,y) -> (3.5x, 6.3y)

Step 2

So width will be multiplied by 3.5
length will be multiplied by 6.3

Step 3

Area will be multiplied by 3.5 * 6.3 = 22.05

Step 4

So area of transformed rectangle = 22.05 * 5
=110.25

All Steps

T(x,y) -> (3.5x, 6.3y)

So width will be multiplied by 3.5
length will be multiplied by 6.3

Area will be multiplied by 3.5 * 6.3 = 22.05

So area of transformed rectangle = 22.05 * 5
=110.25
