Select three samples of your best work for the Portfolio: your best formal essay (the narrative essay, the descriptive essay, or the reader-response essay); your best writing exercise assignment (you may use any writing exercise or grammar report); and your best discussion forum post.
Write a reflective essay that:
1.1. explains why you selected these three samples and what qualities make them particularly effective or successful
1.2. describes your writing process in these three works from coming up with the idea from drafting to revising
1.3. analyzes your least effective writing in this class and explains why you think the writing was not effective
1.4. assesses how well you achieved the writing goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the semester
1.5. explains what you have learned about yourself as a writer this semester and how your assumptions and understanding of writing and reading have changed as a result of your work in this course.
You should present the Portfolio as one document with the reflective essay at the beginning of the document. The essay should be between 6-8 pages, with a 1,500 word minimum. Don’t forget a clever title!
Create an opportunity to share your work. You may want to create a blog that contains some of your writing and your reflective essay, and publish it to your social network. You may want to share it with a family member or friend who has supported you through this course, or peer whose writing you respect.
