Essay 1 - Narrative Essay (Draft). Draft a narrative essay about a significant experience. Recall a singular experience you've had within the last few years that strikes you as particularly significant and has changed the way you are or the way you think about things. Note: This essay should recount and examine ONE experience only (not several). Yes: The day your car broke down. No: The car troubles you have had all year.
This essay constitutes your first major essay draft. Please make sure you submit it according to MLA standards. As stated in the syllabus, written text should be typed, double spaced and in a standard 12-point font. Consult Topic 3: What Makes A Narrative Presentable? for more information. MLA format guidelines and a sample essay are available for viewing at the Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL). Your essay should be about four to five pages typed, double-spaced (1000 words minimum). Save this version of your essay, set it aside, and come back to it as you begin the revision process.
The writer demonstrates a good grasp of standard writing conventions (e.g., spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, usage, paragraphing). Errors are few and minor.
Errors in spelling, punctuation, capitalization, usage, and grammar and/or paragraphing repeatedly distract the reader and make the text difficult to read.
