Evaluating Conflicting Evidence Lesson - PBS History Detectives

Once an event happens, we are left with documents and stories from the event.  Many of these clues don't agree.  That is why it historians must piece together and interpret the evidence from the past to answer historical questions and to create a historical narrative. In the following lesson, students investigate the explosion of the Sultana steamboat in this lesson based on the PBS series History Detectives.  After analyzing conflicting primary and secondary source documents, students should have a better understanding of how to corroborate conflicting historical evidence.  Please review the lesson from the PBS History Detectives.  The student handouts for the lesson and video of the Civil War Sabotage episode are linked below:
