The author describes a teacher who decides to return to the general education classroom after teaching in a center for advanced learners in order to present a challenging curriculum to a diverse group of learners. The goal was elusive, but the questions that the teacher asked made a world of difference for her students. For example, not “What labels?” but “What interests and needs?” Not “What deficits?” but “What strengths?” The author explains the differences between commonly asked questions about teaching academically diverse learners and the questions that are most likely to lead to equity and excellence for all learners.
