In Why Won't You Just Tell Us the Answer:  Teaching Historical Thinking Grades 7-12 Links to an external site., Bruce Lesh describes how he uses process the "Text, Content, and Subtext" process, which is closely aligned to the steps of the Reading Like a Historian Approach.  Below you will find a "Text, Content, and Subtext" graphic from his book and a video that he put together as part of an online book study for the Ohio Council for the Social Studies (OCSS).  In the video, he explains how he used "Text, Content, and Subtext" for his classes for a lesson about Teddy Roosevelt and the Panama Canal.   OCSS will be offering an online book study of Why Won't You Just Tell Us the Answer this Fall.  Follow OCSS @OCSSNetwork for updates.
