Formative Evaluation Exercise: Overview
In this design exercise, you will conduct a formative evaluation of one (or more) prototypes developed by participants in this course. You will gain experience in evaluation, while providing valuable feedback that will inform needed changes to their prototype. The following describes the formative evaluation process you will take during this exercise.
1. Review Prototypes
Review the prototypes shared by others within the Module 5: Prototype Showcase. [Note: Here is the current roster of all submitted lessons Links to an external site. within OER Commons.] Follow the posted links to review the resources within OER Commons, and consider which lesson(s) you would like to evaluate for this exercise.
2. Select and Open Prototype to Evaluate
Select the prototype of at least one other course participant to evaluate with OER Commons. Either follow the posted link to the resource, or copy and paste the URL into your browser. When you open the resource in your browser, you will see a screen like the one below.
As identified above, each resource has its own unique URL (1). Remember to bookmark the URL of the resource you are reviewing to be able to return to it, and to discuss your review the discussion forum at the end of this module. Begin the evaluation by clicking "Evaluate" in the menu on the left side of the screen (2).
3. Evaluate the Prototype
Please watch the following video (5:35 minutes) that offers an overview of how to use the evaluation tool within OER Commons.
Using the formative evaluation guidelines and rubrics covered in this module, evaluate the prototype within OER Commons. As shown in the figure below, ensure you have selected the Achieve evaluation (3). Skim through the guidelines and reminders, and select "Start Evaluating" when you are ready (4).
4. Share and Compare
When you have completed your evaluation, please share and compare your evaluation experiences in the Discuss | M6 | Formative Evaluation Recap forum. Remember to bookmark the URL of the resource(s) you reviewed to be able to discuss it in the forum.
