Your response should be between 350 - 500 words, and it should
- list your next steps to process and respond to the student's request
- identify potential colleagues (not by name but rather by role) on campus to consult as you formulate your response to the student
- specify the questions you would like your colleagues to answer to help you respond to the student
- indicate your response to the students request and provide a rationale.
Your are an instructor in an online psychology course. At the beginning of the term, a student writes to you and tells you that she has recently been diagnosed with a medical condition and has just been discharged from the hospital. She asks you for some additional time to complete the assignment due the next day. Believing this to be an isolated event, you agree and provide an extension, even though you have not received an official notice of accommodations from your disability services office. The student misses the deadline and submits the assignment several days later. Nearing the semester’s mid-term, she writes to you again, indicating that she has to have surgery for her diagnosis and asks you if you are willing to be flexible on due dates and work with her, as she enjoys your course and does not want to drop it. She does not provide any more details as to what the diagnosis is or the extent of the surgery. She also does not address the fact that she has not submitted the second assignment and has been absent from the online discussions for the third module. You are sympathetic to the student but you are not sure how to respond. What are your next steps? Who would you contact on your campus? What questions would you ask of those colleagues?
You may submit your response by using the text box, uploading a file, or providing a URL to a website/blog were you have posted your response.
Don't forget,in addition to completing theassignment you will need to review two of your peers' assignments. These peer reviews will become available after the assignment due date.
