Algebra+  - Linear Equations and Linear Inequalities

Yes, the techniques discussed previously are important to understand and I expect you to use those techniques for just about all the MyOpenMath 1 problems where appropriate. However, there are times when using other tools to solve "messy" linear equations or inequalities would be recommended. Check out the video. Then below the video there are a few "messy" problems for you to practice using a couple of these tools.

Practice Problems

Solve:

a)  6.3981-0.0046\left(3.2106x-4.1702\right)+2.6291=7.1135x+14.77496.39810.0046(3.2106x4.1702)+2.6291=7.1135x+14.7749       answer:  -0.80360.8036

b)  \frac{3.1\pi x}{9.7}-0.9\left(2.43-4.21x\right)=\frac{2.9x}{6.3}+7.13.1πx9.70.9(2.434.21x)=2.9x6.3+7.1          answer:  2.14352.1435

c) 4.1-7.2\left(8.3x+1.9\right)\ge\frac{5.2x}{4.3}-9.74.17.2(8.3x+1.9)5.2x4.39.7         answer:  x\le\frac{129}{65542}\approx0.00197x129655420.00197

d) Suppose the owner of a small business has $14000 to invest into two accounts. One account pays 3.2% simple interest while the other account pays 2.75% simple interest. If the total interest earned after one year is $426.72, then how much money did the owner of the business invest in each account.
