Activities, Grades, and Badges

Activities

Every course topic contains readings (including videos) and activities. Each activity suggests that you create a particular kind of learning artifact. You submit these learning artifacts by publishing them on your blog. In this course, "submit" is simply a synonym for "share with others."

Grades

There are no formal grades in this course. This is true for two reasons.

Many of you are here because you have a passing interest in open education and just want to see what's going on. You're curious, but not committed. And that's fine! Curiosity is the basis of engaged learning. For you, required assignments and final grades would only discourage you from participating - and that would be a shame. So there aren't any grades! Enjoy learning whatever you came here to learn.

Others of you are here because you really want to dig in to open education. You're going to complete every reading and every assignment. For you, your "grade" in the class is the reputation you'll develop in the open education community based on the quality of the learning artifacts you create and share. There's no letter grade I could award that would be more motivating for you. So I won't bother trying.

Badges

For those of you interested in "having something to show" for your time in the class, I'm offering the following certificates in a format compatible with Mozilla's Open Badge Infrastructure Links to an external site.. You can earn any or all:

If at any time you believe you have completed the requirements for one of the badges, simply follow the instructions linked above to submit your curated collection of learning artifacts for review.
