In the spirit of the emerging future - technology issues and trends, you will have the exciting opportunity to participate in HP's personalized learning system, METIS.  As a MOOC participant you will be able to use several systems that are currently in the beta phase, and you will have hands-on experiences with a:

  • unique interactive printed e-textbook
  • web content repository

In order to participate in this project you are invited to:

  • obtain a personal METIS account
  • participate in a survey
  • order a print copy of the e-textbook
  • access the METIS system

  • To access the HP METIS site, click on the METIS Web Content Repository navigation link on the left side of this page. (Then, Click CREATE.)
    • Once you sign up for an account on HP METIS, you will receive an email to verify your email address. Please wait for this email and follow the link to activate your account. This email might end up in your Spam folder. You will not be able to login before your email address is verified.

e-textbook

Participants in this MOOC will have the exciting opportunity to benefit from using a unique interactive printed e-textbook developed by HP Labs in cooperation with the MOOC leaders.  This unique book is yours to keep, and it will incorporate resources available in the MOOC and enable participants to personalize the content with their notes and selected audio/video and print materials.

All MOOC participants will have access to the digital form of the e-text; however, many students prefer to use a combination of digital and print formats.  The print format is available at a reduced cost subsidized by HP, and it will be mailed to participants who complete a short shipping form at this link Links to an external site. .  The first 100 participants who sign up for this experience will get the interactive printed book for free and pay only for shipping costs. DIY PRINTING: A simple way is to login into METIS, open the book, and click on the Print button in METIS. You will be able to get an electronic version of the book.

MOOC Survey

Participants in this MOOC are invited to participate in a quick 5-10 minutes online survey to better understand student’s preferences around print and electronic textbooks.  The results of this survey will be used to inform future joint projects between SJSU and Hewlett Packard.  To participate, visit Survey Monkey.
