Creativity is not limited to one major or personality type or even to people wearing skinny jeans and wire-rimmed glasses. It's not the result of a solitary "aha" moment. Creativity results from devoted, passionate work and can be supported by some simple tools. In this module you will evaluate overlaps between your education and passions; and apply creativity tools to improve your energy innovation project.

Education and creativity.jpg"The reasonable person adapts themselves to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to themselves. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable person." - George Bernard Shaw

"We learned more from a 3-minute record than we ever learned in school." - Bruce Springsteen

"Complaining that graduates aren’t creative is like saying, ‘I bought a bus and it sank." - Ken Robinson

In his book, The Element, Sir Ken Robinson challenges readers to rethink traditional education and the presumed path of normalcy that so many people take (and then wonder why they feel unhappy at work). Robinson suggests we each have an "element," sort of like a passion or talent, that makes us happy and we should pursue. As you watch these videos, think about what your element could be. Think about whether or not you are you pursuing your element and if not, think about what you might start doing differently.

Tweet your epiphany (include "#150tons")

For each reading and video assignment, you will tweet your main "epiphany" from the reading/video (it's time to sign up for a twitter account if you don't already have one). Your epiphany will have to be short - but thoughtful! Please do not simply describe one of the readings/videos. Instead, share your #1 insight that was triggered by all of the assigned reading(s) and/or video(s). What had a transformative effect on you? Can you create a metaphor to tweet? Maybe this is something unexpected, something you will tell your friends, something you can use for your project or in your life, etc...

Twitter logistics: On all of your tweets, add the hashtag "#150tons" at the end so your classmates can find them (and so you can get participation credit). Every time you tweet an epiphany, scan what your classmates have posted on that topic and retweet your favorite. Your goal is to make your epiphany the one that is retweeted the most! Please also sign up to follow me @leidyklotz to get my tweets.
