Optional Assessment
Certificate of Participation
We launched this course in January 2018 and during that first year, participants asked us for certification to verify that they had participated in the course. From 2019, we are providing participants with the option of accessing a Certificate of Participation for the course from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia.
In order to access this certificate, you will need to complete the six modules listed below and successfully complete each module's quiz which is located at the end of the module. Each quiz comprises five multiple-choice questions and you need to answer four of the five questions correctly in order to successfully complete the quiz. If you are unsuccessful, you can take the quiz again. Please note that the questions won't be the exactly the same. The modules that you need to complete to obtain a Certificate of Participation are:
- Orientation Week: Teaching your first class;
- Week 2: Planning for learning;
- Week 3: Feedback for learning;
- Week 4: Scholarly teaching and the scholarship of teaching
- Week 5: Designing, implementing and supporting online learning; and
- Week 11: Learning and teaching theories.
To access your Certificate of Participation, click on Modules in the left-hand navigation and scroll down to the Certificate of Participation section located at the bottom. This section will appear locked until you have passed all quiz requirements. Once you have achieved a score of four out of five for each of the participation quizzes in the modules noted above, this page will unlock and you can then request your certificate.
Support for applying for an AdvanceHE Associate Fellowship
Completing different modules in the course will assist you, if you choose, to develop an application for an AdvanceHE (previously known as the Higher Education Academy) Associate Fellowship. This is an internationally recognised award which may help you in your future applications for probation, promotion and teaching awards. If you don’t work at these universities, the AdvanceHE website provides useful information on the Associate Fellowship Links to an external site..
Please note that the AdvanceHE website provides all of the information that you need to apply for an Associate Fellowship. We don’t replicate that information here. What we do here is direct you to the relevant modules in the course which can assist you in collecting your evidence and in writing your application.
