Sessional staff induction and orientation
Institutions will also differ widely in the processes they follow for sessional staff induction and orientation. These processes may be led at the subject, department, faculty or institutional level. Activities that may be part of this process are also diverse. From a Human Resources and management perspective, you will likely need to:
- complete and provide employment contracts and relevant documents;
- receive a staff account which provides an institutional email account, and access to the Learning Management System and library resources;
- be provided with an induction to the institution that outlines administrative processes, including information about claiming payment, parking or travel;
- be invited to an orientation session, including a tour of the campus and facilities, and informed of basic safety procedures; and
- undertake Occupational Health and Safety training (often in the form of online modules).
Institutions also differ on whether or not you are paid for your engagement with these essential processes.
