Week 8: Collaborative learning: Harnessing student interactions for deep learning: Module Overview
Watch the following video introducing this module.
Transcript [pdf, 145KB] Links to an external site.
This module is based on the following core activities:
- reflecting on previous collaborative learning experiences that you’ve had, and relating those to core collaborative learning principles and theories;
- exploring a range of commonly used collaborative learning activities, and considering how these might apply in your teaching context;
- considering and developing strategies to manage, assess and evaluate collaborative learning activities; and
- developing a culture of students as your peers and learning/teaching collaborators.
There is no formal assessment of your work within this module. However, in undertaking the module learning activities, you’ll generate some artifacts such as stories, analyses, plans and reflective accounts. We strongly recommend that you collect and store these in a portfolio as evidence of your professional development. You may find this evidence useful in the future for things like annual performance reviews, job applications, and further teaching qualifications and accreditation.
Some participants have completed this module within two hours, while others take longer than two hours.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module, you are expected to be able to:
- use your introductory knowledge of established and emerging theoretical fields that underpin collaborative learning;
- appreciate the significance of formal and informal peer learning in higher education; and
- strategise ways to harness peer learning in a structured way in your own teaching.
