Winding up - evaluating
Reflecting on your online teaching
You will have had to make many assumptions in the development of your online learning environment, and it's wise to check some of them so you can improve both the learning experience for students and your experience of teaching.
An early assumption would have been about familiarity with online environments, and whether knowing how to use Instagram is enough to prepare students for online learning. Understanding digital literacy may help refine the guidance and support you give students.
Another important assumption might be that 'if you put it online .... they will read it'. A huge advantage of the online environment is that you can see who has accessed what and when by looking at the learning analytics. Learning Management Systems provide several simple reports of student activity that are easily accessible. It is probably your Learning Management System team who will be investigating the more complex data available, in colloaboration with the provider.
Use of data
The area of learning analytics and use of data relating to the educational technologies opens up further ways to get feedback about students’ learning progress. Find out more about the use of learning analytics at your institution, and consider how you may use data to support students or improve learning design.
