Barriers And Pitfalls To Systemic Analytics

Barriers and Pitfalls to Systemic Analytics

This session will explore some notes of caution with respect to the systemic adoption of learning analytics. It will start by considering practical difficulties and the question of "data literacy", largely drawing from a UK Higher Education background, before moving on to consider likely tensions between the management and practice of education. It will look at the risks posed by institutional responses to learning analytics modelled on conventions found in business intelligence and management reporting. It will finish by briefly identifying examples of initiatives that avoid or circumvent some of the pitfalls.
