Who are the course designers & facilitators?

Designers for Learning

A unique aspect of this course is that it was designed and is being facilitated by all volunteer teams with Designers for Learning Links to an external site., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit incorporated in the United States. Designers for Learning was founded in August of 2014 with a charitable purpose to provide instructional design support to underserved social needs, and we devoted our first three years after incorporation to adult basic education.

Our mission is to provide educational resources and service-learning experiences designed to promote all aspects literacy. We coordinate volunteer service-learning opportunities with those who seek to gain experience creating instruction and other types of performance improvement solutions through collaboration with students, volunteers, schools, and other social enterprises.

CLA Member Mission Red a.jpg

In September of 2017, Designers for Learning joined the Chicago Literacy Alliance (CLA) Links to an external site., an association of agencies operating to help meet literacy needs for people of all ages and backgrounds. We look forward to partnering with CLA members on curriculum design efforts to support adult basic education and vocational training, and we welcome the opportunity to collaborate on new literacy-related initiatives both inside and outside of adult education.

The Volunteer Team for this Course

Starting in the fall of 2015, teams of volunteers designed and facilitated two different implementations of the instructional design course on Canvas Network. A new team (most from prior Designers for Learning projects) are volunteering as facilitators in this evaluation course. You will meet many of these volunteers in the discussion forums and at the option Design Slam on April 15th. The team of volunteers includes professional instructional designers and adult educators with years of subject matter experience. For more information about the design team, the subject matter experts, and our design process, please visit our website where you will find:

By the end of this course, these professional educators and instructional designers will have volunteered hundreds of hours of their time to design and facilitate this service-learning experience. As broken down in the table below, a conservative estimate of the professional services donated by the volunteers who designed and are facilitating this course exceeds $26,000. We thank them for their volunteer service!
