(TESOL Certificate- Standard One)

Welcome to the World of Teaching!

In the next eight weeks, TESOL Certification covers ten modules. Study packages are downloadable and available through online modules. The information presented here is no different from in-class material. To better assist, we have included additional instructions on online studies and assignments preparations. The theory material given by TESOL Canada provides students with the necessary teaching skills and tools required for the classroom experience.

Here is a summary of the resources.

Theory Material:

TESOL (TBE, TAE, TEC, ALP) students will cover eight study packages.

Week 8 TAE- Module VII- Teaching Academic English TAE (IELTS)
Week 7 TBE- Module IIX- Teaching Business English TBE
Week 8 TEC- Module IX- Teaching English to Children TEC

Practical Teaching: (Exempt for Experienced Teachers)

In addition to theoretical teaching, TESOL Canada provides its students with the practical skills needed to teach English to speakers of other languages. Required practicum for the TESOL Foundation Program (150-hour program) is 50 teaching hours. Practicum can begin between weeks 2 to 6.

Practicum Options are:

A) Online practicum sessions are available through Skype, the Language Café, the Language Exchange, and MOOC platforms.

B) To Volunteer & Teach in Local schools.

Summary of Weekly Schedule

Week 2	Module 2 Conversation Practicum begins	Guide to completing conversation activities, Teaching Spoken English, samples of activities and links to online resources. Assignment One: Ten Conversation Activities
Week 3	Module 3	Second Language Acquisitions, Grammar & Lesson Plans. Introduction to online learning with links to online MOOC resources. Assignment Two- Research on MOOC
Week 4	Module 4	Guide to completing lesson plans. Assignment Three- Two 4-Skills Lesson Plans
Week 5	Module 5 Introduction to TBE, TAE & TEC	An overview of Teaching Business English TBE, Teaching Academic English TAE and Teaching English to Children TEC. (For details, register in the *Advanced TESOL Program*.)
	Deadline: Assignment One	Submit: Ten Conversation Activities
Week 6	Module 6 Introduction to Teaching Online.	Teaching Online (MOOC, Social Media, Moodle, and Canvas Platforms)
	Deadline: Assignment Two	Submit research paper: Utilizing Online Technology & MOOC in Teaching Languages.

Start each Module with its proper introduction and guide. Each Module covers both the TESOL Theory and a Grammar Focus unit. Please follow modules & units in their proper order. Steps to Follow:

Week One: Review the “TESOL Manual” and pay attention to Methodologies, Lesson Planning, and Conversation Activities.

Additional samples are included in the weekly modules.

Week Two covers conversation workshops and activities. One of your assignments will be creating Ten Conversation Activities. Conversation Activities shall be specific to teaching ESL to adults or teenagers. Please review the Conversation Activities Manual for your reference. Samples of activities are provided in Module II. In addition to Conversation Activities, Two Observation Reports are required. Reports can be from attending physical classes to watching online videos. You need to complete two observation reports with a total of 4-hour class time. Observations may be completed in classes teaching English or other languages. You may call your local school and ask to observe a French class taught to elementary students. The idea is to learn about teaching skills and not the language itself. If you decide to observe online classes, you must provide relevant links to your completed assignment. Students with previous teaching experience are exempt from this exercise.

In Week Three you will create Two Grammar-based 4-Skills Lesson Plans. Carefully study the lesson plan material provided in Module III and Module IV. The third week will also include information on MOOC and online programs. Research on MOOC is another assignment.

Week Four is the continuation of the Week Three Lesson Plans and the completion of the assignments.

Week Five provides overall ideas on Teaching Business English TBE, Teaching Academic English TAE, and Teaching English to Children TEC. Students interested in completing a certificate in any of our specializations may participate in TESOL Canada’s “Advanced TESOL Program” through Canvas. The end of week five is the deadline to submit the Assignment One, the Ten Conversation Activities.

Week Six introduces students to online teaching, MOOC, Sakai, Moodle, Canvas, and Social Media advertising.

Certificate Requirements:

To become certified, the following are the additional requirements:

To write a research paper of 8-10 pages on the subject of Language Teaching Methodologies introduced during this course.
To attend the Final TESOL Board Exam
To complete the 80-hours required practical experience, either online or onsite. (Exempt for experienced teachers.)
