In Module 7, the Discussion Board prompt asks students to reflect on an interview with an assessment professional. In preparation for this, we wanted to share some questions to guide such an interview or informational meeting and allow you time to contact and schedule such a meeting.
Find someone, either your mentor or someone else who works in assessment (this person does not have to be at your institution) and conduct an informal interview with them. The individual being interviewed can have experience establishing a culture of assessment at the unit, department, division, or institution level. Use the following questions, along with others you may be interested in asking, to guide the interview.
What sort of career experiences have you had that led you to hold this job?
What is your favorite part of your job?
How do you know there is a culture of assessment within your department/division/institution? OR What are the essential components of your assessment culture?
How has the culture of assessment changed at your institution over the past few years? What has prompted that change? OR How does the culture of assessment at this institution differ from your previous institution/expectations?
What role has relationship building played in establishing a culture of assessment?
What are some barriers you have experienced in creating or sustaining a culture of assessment? What has been successful for you in overcoming them?
