TimelineJS

TimelineJS is an open source timeline generator that is easily embedded into Canvas. It doesn't require anything but a Google Spreadsheet to generate, so you only need access to a Google account. This means there is no separate subscription, and it's free!

One thing to note is that TimelineJS Links to an external site. doesn't use https, so you'll have to let your browser "view insecure content" to see the embedded timeline below by clicking on the icon in the top right of your address bar.
