Module 1: Introduction

Introduction

Welcome to Composition I, a fully online course. This course is designed to introduce you to the writing, reading, and thinking skills you will need for success at the college level. The course will emphasize personal, reflective, and expository writing and compel the development of critical reading skills, which will assist your analysis of specific writing techniques and strategies that can be used to improve your writing.

A key goal of Module 1 is for students to familiarize themselves with the online format of this course. If you've never taken an online course before, please set aside some time to log in to the course and look around; use the Canvas Student Guide Links to an external site. to learn how to use the different Canvas features. Online learning can be a little confusing at first, but don't worry. You will get the hang of it quickly.

Please read the Course Syllabus thoroughly so you understand the course policies, expectations, and requirements. The syllabus is a long document, but it is also a very important guide for your learning success.

Next up, introductions! You will use the Discussion page to introduce yourselves and to share your attitudes about writing, including any prior writing experiences (feel free to share the good, the bad, and the ugly). You will also complete a self-evaluation or reflection that details your strengths and weaknesses as a writer and outlines some of your goals for the term.

As a full-fledged member of a budding writing community, you will discuss the writing process with your peers, paying particular attention to its early stages, including freewriting and discussion.
