Technology Requirements and Getting Help
Computers, browsers, and software
To be successful in an online class both you and your students need either a laptop or a desktop computer with the latest web browser versions and reliable internet access (preferably DSL/3G or faster).
Canvas runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, or any other device with a modern web browser.
Supported browsers
Canvas supports the last two versions of every browser release. We highly recommend updating to the newest version of whatever browser you are using as well as the most up-to-date Flash plug-in. (Best Browsers for Canvas Links to an external site.)
- Mozilla Firefox Links to an external site.
- Google Chrome Links to an external site.
- Safari Links to an external site. (Mac only)
- Internet Explorer 11 and Edge
Mobile Canvas
Canvas on mobile browsers
Canvas does not officially support mobile browsers (e.g., iOS Safari, Chrome App, Firefox App). However, in some cases, using the mobile browser may provide a better experience than the official app. It is suggested that you try both methods to find which works best for your device and situation.
Canvas iOS and Android apps
Canvas recommends using the Canvas by Instructure app. The app is compatible with the following mobile operating systems, on both tablets and mobile phones:
- iOS 7.0+
- Android 4.0+
The app can be downloaded from the Play Store on Android or the App Store on iOS devices. Search for "Canvas by Instructure" and install.
