LESSON 3.3: DESIGN STUDIO

Climate Change Mini Design Challenge: Flood Disaster Shelter Design

Before we begin with the design challenge, get more acquainted with AskNature.org.

Climate Change Mini Design Challenge:

It is well documented that one of the potential impacts of climate change is rising ocean levels with the result of coastal flooding, putting many large cities and populations at risk. Additionally, extreme weather events, such as storms, will increase in intensity and frequency. Flash and frequent flooding is a predicted outcome of climate change.

An emergency and disaster relief organization has hired you to design a solution for a flood disaster shelter for a family of four (4) people (2 adults and 2 children).

When beginning a biomimicry design challenge, ask yourself:

  • What does the solution need to do?
  • What's the context?
  • What functions are relevant to the challenge?
  • Then, AskNature...
