Integrating Faculty and Staff Roles
In Week 2, you will learn how you can help reduce barriers faced by students with disabilities. You will learn the difference between proactive course design and making accommodations. You will also analyze what individual and group efforts are necessary to create barrier-free learning environments given the complexity of and overlap between faculty and staff roles.

Course Competency
Articulate faculty and staff roles in reducing barriers for students with disabilities.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this week participants will be able to:
- Identify faculty and staff roles in proactive course design.
- Identify faculty and staff roles in responding to an individual student's need for accommodations.
Learning Activities and Assessment
This week we have approximately 2 hours of learning activities including content that you can read, watch, and/or listen to, as well as discussion forums. You can also participate via social media using the hashtag #accessmooc and posting on the Facebook page. You can certainly spend much more time exploring the various websites and resources if you choose to do so, but we have designed the course so that the quiz can be completed from exploring the content we created for the week.
The primary activities are:
- Short readings
- Videos
- Discussion forum
The assessment for this week is a quiz. Successful completion with a 80% or higher is required to earn the Week 2: Faculty and Staff Roles badge.
