DIY: Get Some OER!
- Due No Due Date
- Points 0
Now it's time to find something we can use in our own classroom.
- Using the web, go to the OER Commons Links to an external site., which is just one of a number of open collections.
- Scroll down just a bit until you see the search field. You can use this, or you can save yourself time by clicking on "Use Advanced Search."
- Select the subject area, grade level, educational use, and material type, as well as any other parameters that you wish.
- For "Terms of Use," select "Remix and Share."
- Enter keywords that describe what you're looking for and click "Search."
- Review the results. If there are no hits, try using different parameters. If you still come up with nothing, then you have located a gap that you can create your own OER to fill (in module 3).
- Once you have located something that might work, click on it to view the material.
- Verify that the content is explicitly licensed for use. Since we selected "Remix and Share," the resource should state that it can be used and modified as long as any derivative works are licensed in the same way (more in this in the next module).
- Uh, use the resource.
Congratulations! You've just found your first open resource. Welcome to the 21st century.
